As a theatre maker in Bristol, I feel that one of our strongest assets in terms of making our voices heard is our local Equity Branch.

We formed as a result of the Bristol Old Vic closure and Arts Council cuts in 2007. This gave us a sense of urgency and passion, which we’ve taken forward to other issues such as campaigns to Keep Casualty in Bristol and stopping agencies from charging up-front book fees.

Equity is a member led union. The branch provides an opportunity for local actors, directors, dancers etc to meet and discuss issues of concern and for those issues to be promoted with the union’s resources.

More information on Equity’s Bristol and West General Branch can be found at http://www.equity.org.uk/bristolwestgen
